Los Quetzales!!

On our way back to Montezuma from the Osa Peninsula we went to the mountains to this place called Mirador de Los Quetzales. So basically you spend the night in a cabin and then get up early in the morning to have a hot drink and then walk around and look for quetzals. A quetzal is a rare bird that only lives in the Central American mountain ranges. During our time on the Osa Peninsula we met quite a few people that went up in the mountains near Monteverde to look for quetzals and didn't see any. Luckily, we saw some.

The quetzal is truly an amazing bird. Their tail alone is twice the size of their body. Just sitting still they are green, blue, and red. The feathers on their heads are spiky, almost as if they have a mohawk. In flight they are magnificent and their tail feathers trail behind them. Sorry, we didn't get a picture.:-( Even though it was freezing cold and raining,
I definitely had an amazing time and I would go back if I ever got the chance.
Ciao,
JB
